Looks like La Randalla is officially closed after being shuttered for several years. Many of us fondly remember this divy spot for it's awesome margaritas, mexican food, low lighting, and of course, dusty Christmas decorations up all year. Valencia Street at 19th has sure changed over the years. This venue was one of my first introductions to the wonders of the Mission many years ago when it was much less discovered. Hasta! I was interviewed yesterday about collage art for a future feature which will be aired on Alhurra TV. The segment will be shown in 20 countries across the Middle East and North Africa. The program is like "Good Morning America", in format-although in the Middle East, it is an evening program. My interview will be broadcast in Arabic with English subtitles. It was an interesting and fun exception to a typical day for sure. Cant wait to see myself speaking Arabic! Will post the interview when it has been aired. http://www.alhurra.com The producer and film crew in my studio filming a piece in progress, the top of my drafting table with piles of books and paper, and my "tools"-scissors, paper, and glue. Sometimes, a sidewalk deserves a closeup. Glama-rama! Salon, SF @ 14th on Valencia. Always on the sunny side of the street. A Swoon wheatpaste on Clarion Alley, SF. This piece is fairly hidden, and thankfully- well preserved-being to the side of a front door which is protected by a front gate therefore escaping spraypaint-and urine coverage. Detail of spray paint on Clarion Alley. Very modern elements, no? ..and, DO YOU DRINK MILK? Wanted a Halo, got a shark fin! At the end of every alley, a bit of a weave, on a bit of a leaf. Random shots walking down the street today RIP Etta James. A voice like no other. Many memories of listening to her bluesy voice, bourbon in hand, warm tears falling. Her music-and her amazing bands- really got me, "there". God speed Miss Etta! Back to the city 01/18/2012
From the waves of Banderas Bay, back to the streets of Oaktown. Back to my beanie and sweaters. I do like to bundle. Gas station graphics. Hot Toddy, Flora. House in the Tenderloin. San Francisco. Ghoulish graphics Geometric mural. Market Street, and Stockton SF "Stop the car, I need a shot of that". This was on the side of a cultural center, San Pancho Mexico...a little bitty, gorgeous beach side village. Detail from the series above (there were two panels). This totally reminded me of some of David Hockney's photomontage pieces-and the image is simply ferocious!! Kevin and I ringing in the New Year at Sama Martini Bar in lovely Puerto Vallarta. As a kid, I watched every episode of The Love Boat. It's as close to being devoutly religious that I have perhaps ever been. The boat was always docking in PV, and I always fantasized of traveling here-not necessarily with Captain Stubing and Julie McCoy-but a kid can dream, no? Some dreams do come true-the most amazing one, meeting my handsome and amazing husband. Twelve years together has gone so fast. I look forward to many, many more. What's on my desk... 01/03/2012
