RIP Etta James. A voice like no other. Many memories of listening to her bluesy voice, bourbon in hand, warm tears falling. Her music-and her amazing bands- really got me, "there".
God speed Miss Etta!
AMY JADE WINEHOUSE 1983-2010
Thanks for the memories, Miss Amy. You will always be one of my heroes. Big Kiss to you.
RIP Poly Styrene. She passed yesterday at the young age of 53 after a battle with cancer which had spread agressively in the past months. Poly began the influential punk band, X-Ray Specs in the late 70's after seeing a Sex Pistols show. The band put out a slew of singles, among them, "Oh Bondage, Up Yours!, "I'm a Cliche", and one of my fave punk anthems, "Warrior In Woolworths". Godspeed Poly and thanks for all the great music and memories!
RIP Elizabeth Taylor. 1932-2011. A Lioness, an Angel, a truly unique person. Cheers to you Dame Elizabeth!
This week has been so sad with the passing of two of my heroines-Barbara Billingsley and Ari Up.
Now Wally, you will teach the Beav how to set the table!!!
Barbara was 94 years old when she passed last week.
Ari (middle) was 14 when she formed The Slits in 1976! Ari, and The Slits will always be a big inspiration for myself and for many others!
Ari (right) visiting a pregnant Nina Hagen. Malibu, 1980
Life is ALWAYS too short!!! Ari was only 48 years old when she died from cancer this week.
