I have been a fan of Dutch painter Piet Mondrian since first seeing the Partdridge Family bus on TV when I was a kid. The schoolbus was painted in the style of one of his paintings and was used by the family when they went out on tour. Mondrian's most well known painting style is known as Neoplasticism, and is derived from the ideas of harmony and order. To achieve this, Mondrian used black horizontal and vertical lines and primary colors. He repeatedly used these elements towards creating an equilibrium of surface, form, and color. Mondrian lived at different times in Paris, London, and New York. The rhythm of urban life was an inspiration to him as he consistently tried to paint order out of chaos.
