Eye catching illustration from the zoo-themed children's book, The Golden Book of Zoo Animals. This is from the blog Vintage Books My Kids Love... http://www.vintagechildrensbooksmykidloves.com/search?updated-max=2011-02-10T09%3A56%3A00-06%3A00&max-results=7 Add Comment David Weidman began his art career as an animation background artist in the 1950's. His imagery figured prominently in mine-and any kid's mind who watched Saturday morning TV in the 1970's-as he, and others, created the scenery for such shows as Fractured Fairy Tales and Rocky and Bullwinkle. In the 60's, he began silk screening and quickly mastered the medium. Mr. Weidman is currently making art and his work and prints are available on his website. The look is still very 60's and represents a screening style which I love. Visit the man here... http://www.weidmansart.com/ I purchased a stack of Barbara Bradley postcards in Hawaii-her Hawaiin kids series. After doing some research on her, I pleasently discovered that she did much of her work at her home in the Berkeley Hills-including the Hawaiin kid series, using her own kids as models. Barbara was highly regarded as an illustrator and teacher. A great tribute article here from the Academy of Art San Francisco http://www.academyart.edu/news/articles/academy-creates-scholarship-fund-honor-barbara-bradley.html Fantastic interview here-Barbara describes being an female illustrator in a male dominated field in the 1950's and 60's. Could not help but think of Mad Men. The blog is dedicated to Mid Century female illustrators http://femaleillustrators.blogspot.com/2010/03/barbara-bradley.html Many pages of vintage cover design by this Dutch illustrator here... http://www.retrobook.com/blackbears3.html |
